Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate machinery to mix various batches of molten metal and maintain the metal at the specified temperature for use in converters and furnaces.
- Control the mixer’s lid and coordinate with the Overhead Crane Operator to pour metal from the transfer ladle into the mixer.
- Adjust the fuel and air mixture to the mixer burners to maintain the specified temperature and rotate the arm that mixes the molten metal.
- Signal the Overhead Crane Operator to position the ladle for receiving molten metal from the mixer for delivery to converters or furnaces.
- Operate controls to tilt the mixer and fill the ladle.
- Use a long-handled spoon to obtain a sample of molten metal from the ladle and pour it into a mold for laboratory analysis.
- Repair the mixer lining using refractory materials and hand tools.
Requirements:
- Experience in operating and controlling metal mixing machinery.
- Knowledge of adjusting fuel and air mixtures to maintain specific temperatures.
- Ability to coordinate with Overhead Crane Operators for the efficient transfer of molten metal.
- Skills in using hand tools and refractory materials for mixer maintenance.
