Cutting-Machine Operator Job Description
Work information, duties, and responsibilities of a cutting-machine operator are the following:
1. Tends machine equipped with electric knife or rotary shear that cuts cloth into specified lengths and folds lengths for use in making bags: Places roll of cloth on brackets of machine and threads cloth between feed rollers or sews cloth to leader in machine, using portable sewing machine. 2. Cuts cloth, using either of following methods: Moves slotted bar specified distance from folding bar to obtain length of cut and tightens setscrew to secure bar. 3. Starts machine that moves cloth over slotted bar. 4. Pushes electric knife along slot to cut cloth into lengths. 5. Changes gears of machine, using wrenches, or turns dial to set feeding speed of machine that controls length of cut. 6. Starts machine that automatically cuts cloth into lengths, folds lengths, and deposits folded cloth on catch-bar of machine. 7. Periodically removes folded cloth accumulated on catch-bar and stacks cloth on handtruck. 8. Measures cloth lengths, using rule. 9. Records yardage cut. 10. May be designated according to type of bag cut as Cotton-Bag-Cutting-Machine Operator; Jute-Bag-Cutting-Machine Operator; Waterproof-Bag-Cutting-Machine Operator.
